Key Issues for Snoqualmie

1

Respect and Partnership with the Snoqualmie Tribe

The Snoqualmie Tribe is a sovereign government, the largest employer in our city, and a vital cultural and environmental steward. Yet our current leadership has missed key opportunities to build a true partnership.

2

Celebrate Snoqualmie’s Cultures and Traditions

We are more than one story—we are a city of many backgrounds, histories, and dreams. Celebrating who we are makes us stronger.

3

End Isolation — Build Strong Regional Partnerships

While neighboring cities like North Bend are advancing together, Snoqualmie has remained isolated—missing out on tourism, business, and shared planning opportunities.

4

Public Safety with Accountability and Trust

Snoqualmie residents have raised concerns about public safety leadership, morale, and transparency. Everyone deserves to feel safe—and to trust those sworn to protect us.

5

Fair Utility Rates and Budget Transparency

Recent utility rate hikes hit families hard—especially those on fixed incomes. Many residents felt left out of the conversation.

6

Smart Growth That Protects Our Environment

As our city grows, we must protect what makes Snoqualmie beautiful—our Falls, our forests, and our clean air. Climate resilience isn’t a luxury—it’s a necessity.

Meet Marcus

I was raised in a low-income neighborhood in South Seattle during the crack epidemic and gang violence of the 1980s and 90s. Being the first in my family to go to college, becoming a father at 20, and experiencing the loss of my own father shortly after taught resilience through hardship—principles that continue to inform my public service.

My journey from those early challenges to becoming  a professor and city strategist demonstrates what can happen when communities prioritize investing in their people. I have led billion-dollar planning initiatives, influenced DEI policies throughout the region, and fostered trust between governments and communities, including strengthening relationships with the Snoqualmie Tribe. At the University of Washington, I work to educate the next generation of ethical leaders.

Dr. Marcus J. Johnson, PhD., is a community advocate, equity strategist, educator, and proud Snoqualmie resident.  He is committed to building a safe, inclusive, and forward-focused Snoqualmie by offering trustworthy, transparent, and community-rooted leadership.  With a proven record of building cross-sector partnerships and leading transformative change, Marcus brings the experience and vision needed to guide Snoqualmie's next chapter.

I’m running for Mayor to make local government work for everyone—families, small businesses, tribal neighbors, and future generations. With over two decades of experience in public policy, education, and equity, I’ve seen how real change happens: when communities are heard, values guide strategy, and leadership delivers results.  I’ve led $1.9 billion in city planning, pioneered ethical innovation in government, and partnered directly with the Snoqualmie Tribe to protect our environment and cultural heritage. Now I’m ready to bring that leadership home—so Snoqualmie can grow wisely, stay connected, and protect what makes us special.

Dr. Marcus J. Johnson isn’t just a candidate—he’s a systems leader. With experience across higher education, city government, tribal relations, and regional partnerships, Marcus knows how to build coalitions that deliver. He’s worked across departments, across communities, and across generations to make government more inclusive, more effective, and more accountable.
